![]() The Kern County Water Agency (Agency) is pleased to offer the following presentations and materials free of charge. The Agency’s Water Education Consultant conducts a presentation that highlights Kern County’s state and local water supplies. Other topics address water conservation, chemistry, local groundwater banking programs, the Henry C. Garnett Water Purification Plant and the importance of water for agriculture. The lively assemblies include a PowerPoint presentation of colorful charts and pictures, as well as an activity for the students to follow. At the conclusion of the assembly, all students receive a Kern County Water Agency Water Education Kit. All curricula meet the criteria of the California Board of Education. Please email us for more information.![]() Farmers Grow Our Food-This 45-minute engaging and interactive assembly has been designed to teach students about Kern County’s water supplies and how that water is used. The importance of water conservation is also taught in the lesson. An interactive part of the assembly invites students to help build a pizza display, allowing them to see how much water is required to make one of the foods that we all enjoy. Students are then designated as “Water Deputies” and given a Water Deputy sticker badge. At the conclusion of the presentation, all students receive a coloring book and crayons that highlight the importance of water for agriculture and seed packets for students to grow radishes as an extension activity. The importance of water conservation is also taught as part of the lesson. The scientific process is explored through the demonstration of two chemistry experiments on the chemical components of water. At the conclusion of the presentation, all students receive a water education workbook, a pencil and a Water Deputy sticker badge.
