This 50-minute groundwater presentation takes the students on a fascinating journey underground. The presentation begins with a 30-minute PowerPoint presentation that highlights Kern County’s local and state water sources and local groundwater banking programs. A groundwater flow model is then used to demonstrate key concepts about the physics of water as it moves under Earth’s surface. This program has been specifically designed to address the California Science Standards for Earth Science, California Geology. At the conclusion of the presentation all students receive a pencil and teachers receive materials to conduct the follow-up lesson, “Get the Groundwater Picture” in their classroom.
