KERN COUNTY WATER AGENCY’S IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT NO. 4 WATER EDUCATION PROGRAM

Each year, the Kern County Water Agency’s Improvement District No. 4’s (ID4) comprehensive Water Education Program educates thousands of local students about Kern County’s local and state water supplies, and the importance of water and its conservation.  This provides the opportunity to make informed decisions when it comes to water and its conservation.  The program incorporates teacher workshops, curriculum materials, assemblies, classroom presentations and student contests.  All curricula and instruction offered correlate to the Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards for kindergarten through 12th grade.

All programs are offered free of charge to all public and private schools located within ID4’s service area.

ID4 is proud to be a facilitator of Project WET (Water Education for Teachers).  Each year, ID4 holds two free Project WET workshops and practicums, one for kindergarten through 6th grade teachers and one for high school teachers.

This comprehensive standards-based program incorporates grade-level curriculum materials, assemblies, classroom presentations and student contests.

These informative presentations and videos take an in-depth look at local and state water supplies, and the importance of surface water and groundwater.  Students are also introduced to varied and numerous career opportunities in the water industry.

The water that comes out of the tap has quite a story to tell.  In this six-video segment, as part of the “Do the Science” series, the water purification process is explored through scientific concepts, along with a preview of the variety of careers available in the water industry as demonstrated at the Kern County Water Agency’s Improvement District No. 4 Henry C. Garnett Water Purification Plant.
