PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Kern County Water Agency’s Improvement District No. 4 (ID4) is pleased to offer the following grade-level assemblies and Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards-based materials free of charge to schools located within ID4’s service area. (To view the list of all schools located within ID4’s service area, click here.)  All assemblies address Kern County’s state and local water supplies, the ID4 Henry C. Garnett Water Purification Plant, local groundwater banking programs and water conservation.  The lively assemblies include colorful pictures and videos, as well as interactive activities for the students to follow.  At the conclusion of the assemblies, teachers receive a water education curriculum packet and grade-level educational materials for students.

NEW WATER CONSERVATION ACTIVITY!

Teachers and students who participate in the assemblies now have the opportunity to be recognized as Deputies of Water Conservation.  At the conclusion of the water education assemblies, teachers receive a classroom water conservation kit that includes a Deputies of Water Conservation classroom poster, conservation track sheets and water deputy stickers.  Once classrooms complete the activity, they are recognized on the Kern County Water Agency’s website and in the annual brochure.

Improvement District No. 4 (ID4) was formed by a resolution adopted by the Kern County Water Agency (Agency) Board of Directors on December 21, 1971 to provide a supplemental water supply for portions of the metropolitan Bakersfield area through the importation of water from the State Water Project.

The Agency operates the Henry C. Garnett Water Purification Plant, which delivers drinking water to the following purveyors:  California Water Service Company, City of Bakersfield, East Niles Community Services District and North of the River Municipal Water District (which wholesales to Oildale Mutual Water Company).

In adhering to ID4’s objective to administer high-quality, standards-based water education, all Water Education Assembly Programs have been recently updated.  A focus has been placed on grade-specific programs that cover Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards, and can be used in many different subject areas.  The new Water Education Programs also include hands-on activities that have been designed to enhance students’ higher-level thinking skills.
